This masterclass is the straight talk.

Maybe you said it out loud once. Maybe you've only thought it. Maybe someone you know had a homebirth and something in you stirred, and you're not sure what to do with that.

You don't have enough information to make a real decision. Not because you're not smart or capable, but because the information out there is either scary, preachy, confusing, or written for someone who is nothing like you. There's a lot of noise, and not a lot of honest, complete, straight talk.

We are going to go through what birth actually is, what homebirth actually is, what a hospital birth actually looks like, and what a birth center actually offers, so that you can make a real decision.

Not based on fear. Not based on what your mother-in-law said. Based on what you know and what you want.

You're going to walk out of this with a plan. If you're going hospital, you'll know what to do. If you're going homebirth, you'll know what to do. If you're going birth center, you'll know what to do. And if you need more support after, that option is there too.

What we cover
  • 01What birth actually is, physiologically and historically, and what really changed over the generations.
  • 02All three settings side by side: home, birth center, and hospital. What each one looks like, the real advantages, the real tradeoffs.
  • 03The honest pros and cons of homebirth, including the things people don't say out loud.
  • 04What the research actually shows about continuous monitoring, C-section rates, and homebirth outcomes for low-risk women.
  • 05Halacha and homebirth.
  • 06The misconceptions going around, the ones that make it sound more dangerous than it is, and the ones that make it sound easier.
  • 07Your legal rights as a woman in any birth setting, and what it actually takes to exercise them.
  • 08What prenatal care actually looks like at home versus at a hospital practice, and why that matters.
  • 09A live clarity exercise so you leave knowing what you actually want, not just what you think you should want.
  • 10Peace with your decision, whatever it turns out to be.
  • 11A plan for whatever you decide: hospital, birth center, or homebirth.

I am not here to tell you to have a homebirth.

This is not a class that pushes you in one direction. I will not stand here and tell you homebirth is right for you, because I don't know that. What I do know is that you deserve the real information so you can figure that out yourself.

I take no accountability for your decision. That is yours, completely. My job is to make sure you have what you need to make it, clearly, calmly, on your own terms.

Batya Kahn, portrait

Doula. Childbirth educator. Kallah teacher.

I've walked women through every kind of birth, hospital, birth center, home. This masterclass is for the woman quietly wondering whether she wants something different, and doesn't have anywhere honest to bring the question.

I totally love hospital births too. This is not anti-anything. It's pro, knowing what you actually want.

One person's experience is not the same as actually understanding what you're walking into. Real information goes a long way, even when you have someone in your corner.

You can also find me on the Birth Binah Podcast, where I've been having honest conversations about birth for years.

Thank you for empowering me to trust my intuition and be able to have this beautiful experience.
FAQ

Is this for me?

That's exactly who this is for. You don't need to have decided anything. You just need to have had the thought. This masterclass gives you the information you need to figure out whether it's right for you, including the honest reasons it might not be.

Yes. A lot of women who have already decided are still carrying questions they haven't been able to answer, or are dealing with pushback from people around them and don't have the language to respond. This will give you clarity on what you actually feel, and tools to communicate it.

I hear you, and I want you here specifically. A precipitous birth in an ambulance or with Hatzala is traumatic. It's also one of the situations where homebirth is worth seriously considering, because a planned, supported homebirth with a qualified midwife is a completely different experience than an unplanned fast birth with no support. You may not end up choosing homebirth, but you deserve to understand what it actually is before you decide.

Come anyway. Understanding what homebirth and birth center births look like will give you a much clearer picture of what's actually possible in a hospital, what your rights are, and what to ask for. A lot of women come in thinking they want a homebirth and leave choosing a hospital birth with a completely different level of preparation. That's a win.

No. I'm going to give you real information, including the real downsides of homebirth and the real reasons a hospital is the right choice for some women and some pregnancies. What you do with that information is completely up to you.

No. Come and get clarity for yourself first. Once you know what you actually want and why, it's much easier to have that conversation. This masterclass will help with that too.

Yes. I'm not crunchy either. This is not that world. This is just honest information about birth for women who want to make a real decision.

I hold this conversation carefully. If at any point you need to step away, do that. There's no obligation to stay for the Q&A. The recording will be available if you want to come back to anything.
